The Moon in the houses
The Moon in each of the twelve houses of a birth chart: how each placement can show up in everyday life, and the astrology behind it.
The Moon describes emotional needs and habits: what helps you settle, and how you react before you've had time to think.
Its house points to the part of life where those needs come up most often, and where feeling at home matters most.
- The Moon in the 1st house
Even when you'd prefer to keep a feeling private, it may show in your expression before you find words for it.
- The Moon in the 2nd house
When you need reassurance, you may check your savings or stock the kitchen.
- The Moon in the 3rd house
Your mood often shows in how you talk: the tone of a message, how much you say, who you call first.
- The Moon in the 4th house
Home is where you refuel, and you feel it right away when things there are out of order.
- The Moon in the 5th house
Play may be one of the ways you work through your feelings.
- The Moon in the 6th house
Your mood is closely tied to your daily routine.
- The Moon in the 7th house
You feel steadier when there's someone close to share things with.
- The Moon in the 8th house
You may feel things deeply and be careful about whom you share them with.
- The Moon in the 9th house
You feel better when life has room to grow: travel, study, a new way of seeing things.
- The Moon in the 10th house
How things are going at work can shape your mood more than you'd like.
- The Moon in the 11th house
Friends are a real source of comfort for you, and you may feel lonely when a group drifts apart.
- The Moon in the 12th house
You may need more time alone than people expect.
What the houses are
A birth chart is divided into twelve houses, each linked with an area of life: money, home, partnership, work and so on. A planet in a house brings its themes into that area.
Houses depend on the exact time and place of birth. As the Earth turns, every planet passes through all twelve houses in about a day, so without a birth time the houses can't be placed reliably.
Your birth chart shows which house each of your planets is in and how they work together. The reading on Sky & Story is free; for houses, you'll need your birth time.
